Books and papers will be …
There are many book clubs. This group reads literary classics...books that have stood the test of time. So we'll never read the hot new thing...we'll read books that are 10-10,000 years old but are still in print. We'll read Homer, Dante, Salinger, Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, John Kennedy Toole, Alice Walker, Shakespeare. Great authors, great books. We'll read fiction, poetry, drama, folk tales, philosophy. We'll discuss what we read over wine or coffee. Sound fun?
This is a book club inspired by Goodreads' list of “100 Books Every Man Should Read.” We’ll read a new selection each month and then meet together to discuss it at Morning Times coffee shop in downtown Raleigh. The subject matter of our books will naturally lead to discussions about masculinity (or Men’s Studies as it’s sometimes called) but our main goal is to have well rounded discussions that simply celebrate our appreciation for literature. (Having said that, the group is open to any women w …

We gather to discuss books that are variously called psychological memoir, first person accounts, or autobiography about the experience of suffering from mental illness. Our scope is broad, including addiction, developmental disabilities, and family dysfunction. Our selections are intended as accurate representations of human experience and must be a well written work of literature. Our name is of course a reference to Marcel Proust, even though many would dispute that he should be classified as …

We'll read classics and modern classics, because a) they tend to be really good, or really important, or both. b) they tend to be aimed at grown-ups. and c) they tend to be cheap. Which is important.
