This book club is for those people who aren't content with only reading and discussing the likes of popular classics and mainstream literature. If you are in the mood for something a bit edgy, rebellious, and/or eccentric, then you've come to the right place. Focusing on revolutionary literature, cult classics, and less-mainstream topics and genres, we meet on a monthly basis in The Marigny at Flora's. Please join us for reading, conversation, debate, food, coffee and/or other tasty beverages. …
This is a New Orleans group for all things associated with the goth culture: goth literature, clothing, music, and just whatever else comes up. I know there is a wide range of different types of goth, but this group is open to all of them. Or just anyone whose really interested in the subculture (like me). I'm hoping we can meet and mingle, discuss tips for d.i.y clothing (or good clothing websites for the less construction inclined) or maybe even delve into some interesting literature.

I like to read--a lot. I also like to spend time talking with interesting, congenial people about the books I read. And quite often, it is a lot of fun to pursue these conversations with a drink in hand. I'm not saying we should get plastered, but let's relax in a gracious New Orleans setting, knock back a few, and discuss books that matter. Books we've read: American Gods, The Movie Goer, The Awakening, The Tragedy of Arthur, Quiet Houses, Nine Lives, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, The Sens …

[You must read carefully the following group description if you consider joining.] Because this group is called a seminar, it has a much tighter structure than your typical meetup group. (See below the Wikipedia entry for Seminar.) We read privately and then discuss in a small group the very best short stories -- classics and contemporary ones -- as long as they are available online or in affordable book form. We also read and discuss criticism, that is, commentaries on our selected stories and …

We meet in Members' homes or in public spaces such as libraries, coffee houses, parks. Sitting in a circle, we discuss from the heart soulful/sacred short poems that we have selected and pondered in advance. Every other month we also gather to discuss the latest issues of the magazine THE SUN -- and, upon approval, articles of older issues. Check with the Organizers if you have any questions regarding the selection process.

(Once we have a few members, we will decide where/when to meet.) This is a new workshop group of Gulf Coast poetry and fiction writers. We will get together once-a-month to critique each others work. Essentially, we will discuss what we like about a piece, and what we think can be improved. The emphasis is on nurture: how one writer can help another via thoughtful comments and suggestions. Everyone's manuscripts (2,500 words max) are traded via email one week prior to the meeting, then printe …
